Eco-Friendly Tips
on how to "green" your vehicle and
driving habits!
We all know that
automobiles are a major source of pollution. But, there are many things
you can do to get your vehicle and your driving habits to be more
environmentally friendly. So the next time you get behind the
wheel, keep these tips in mind:
| • |
Improve Your Driving Habits
Driving technique has a lot to do with your fuel economy. Avoid sudden
starts and stops and go the speed limit. Drive wisely and minimize
unnecessary miles by doing errands in one trip, getting good directions
and calling ahead. Also remove any unnecessary junk from your vehicle
and trunk – all that extra weight only drags you down and adversely
affects your fuel economy.
|
| • |
Stay on
Top of Your Vehicle Maintenance
Keeping up on your vehicle's maintenance, such as regular oil changes,
air filter changes, spark plug replacements and ensuring your tires are
properly inflated can increase your MPG up to 25%! You will burn less
gas, pollute less and help prevent any car trouble down the line.
For example, if every vehicle on the road in the U.S. had its tires
properly inflated we could save around 2 billion gallons of gas each year!

Carpooling is the Smart Way to Go
Find coworkers, neighbors and fellow students headed in the same
direction. Start with one shared trip per week. Not only is it
eco-friendly, but with today's skyhigh gas prices, carpooling is also
friendly on your budget. Also look into ride share programs – go to the
King County Metro Ride Share
website for information.
